gspsquared, I just gotta ask......The Point After? Isn't that a bar? Isn't that a strange choice?
I guess its like I always say, "That goes together like alchohol and firearms!"

Please don't get me wrong. I'm not bashing. I OFTEN safely mix alchohol and firearms, I'm just asking. It doesn't seem like you'd get many takers and I'm surprised "they" would let you conduct a class in a bar.
Also, what is CFP? Concealed Firearm Permit? Or Protection? Is it just a class for the permit or does it include training?
And while I have you on the line, how do you go about getting a permit after a DUI? How long do you have to wait?

Although I do agree with Fatbass, I dont write the laws.

Yes it is a bar, but you can leagally carry in a bar in Utah too. You just cant be intoxicated while in possesion of a firearm. Yes it is an odd choice but the bar is all for it, and we are doing the class early in the day and upstairs and the upstairs bar will not be open. Also there will be no live firearms in the class. This class is just the class you need to take to apply for the permit. So it is basically 3 to 4 hours of lecture, and advice.

It stands for Concealed Firearms Permit.

You have to wait six years on a D.U.I.

Nothing personal, gspsquared. I pack when I feel the need and refuse to have my name on any gov't gun list.

ok cool. Again don't think I was bagging on you. I knew you can pack in a bar, in fact, the bar is about the only place that I ALWAYS took my pistol and I spent countless moments explaining to people that it is pefectly legal to carry in a bar as long as you can pass the same standard for intoxication that you would pass to drive a car. I was just kind of hopeing that you were offering a training type class. The six years is a bummer, although I don't really feel the need to carry around my neck of the woods I would like to when I go to SLC. I guess I'll just have to continue to keep it in the car.
Bassamatic, be careful doing it your own way  I do believe if you get caught they will take your guns away.

I will be doing actual training when the weather clears up. I did not take anything you say as a personal attack either. I realize it is an odd choice to hold a class, but the space was offered to me and I took it. But if you are interested in an actual live fire intruction class I hope to put a few on this spring.

Fatbass: I understand where you are coming from, I dont feel the same as far as the govt gun list goes. That could be considered a hunting license too, but I understand and respect that way of thinking. I do agree that it is silly to have to have a permit to carry a concealed gun leagally though.

Better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6. I trust Utah's prosecutors when it comes to deciding if a gun was used in the proper circumstances. I won't pull a weapon unless I intend to empty it into some felon that deserves it. 8)

Sweet Bassamatic! 'Nuff said.
Also gsp, if you do put on some live fire training classes PLEASE DO let us know around here. It is some thing I've been interested in for a long time.
Can you give me an estimate on cost and timing? Early spring? Weekends?
Are these live fire exercises going to be at The Point After also? How about Port o' Call?

Well Portocall would work great but it is not there anymore.hahhaha

I will have to see what I can use as a range, I have access to a few. It will be on a weekend, as far as the legnth of the class goes I would have to say to even scratch the surface it would have to be a 6 to an 8 hour class. There would be one to two hours classroom, and then the rest on the range with a roundcount of 300 to 400. On a class like this I would not want more then 6 people, that way I can make sure everyone gets some personal instruction and is getting good value for their dollar and also maintain a safe enviorment for everyone. A class like this will cost around $125 a person. I would cover alot of areas such as: drawing, accuracy, speed, tactics, weapon retention, ground fighting, close quarters, weapon manipulation, moving, using cover, stoppage drills......etc. I would aslo cover topics like what you can expect if you are in a gunfight, and what might happen after the fight.

That sounds awesome. You are one hell of a sales man. Price seems acceptable, however 400 rounds of 45acp would break the bank right now. 400 rounds of Magtech or Starfire, which is my choice for protection?????????????????????????
Where's the smiley for puking and rolling on the floor groaning? Still let us know. I would really, really like to have more training than the guy on the business end of The Warthog. 8)

Fine choices in ammo, I use Federal myself. I think using a bonded round is the only way to go but that is just my opinion. And well depending on the day would determine the caliber and weapon some bad person might find themself on the wrong side of  I carry a 9,or a 357 sig,or a .45, and .38. But I also live in SLC :geek: But all these things I would talk about in my class too, I have a different opinion then alot of people do about the 9mm, with the right round it is a more then acceptable caliber.

I know ammo is expensive, but for this class just use ball/practice ammo and it wont be as bad. I think we could make it alot of fun and very immformative.

I suppose that would work. I was thinking training with your specific defense ammo would be a must but after some more thought I guess a few hundred rounds of reloads would be fine.....if I could afford the .45 dies.....
1st annual Gutpile Handgun Tactics and Defense training course? Anyone? Anyone?
